Building a Peavey Sheffeild Loaded Straight Cabinet. COMPLETED!!!

Post by SlayerBear17 » Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:56 pm

I think I did a typo

Anywho, so while I,m out in LA and area, I,m going to be visiting some stores which will help me with getting my Peavey Build on in March....well hopefully finished in March. I,ll be shopping at mainly two places but if I find others I may go there as well.

Made a list......checking it twice......going find out who's......errrr.

Right now my total cost is at $160 USD, all little bits and pieces. Nothing majorly big or heavy. Some of this stuff I could get in Canada but not locally, factor in our dropping dollar.....I actually changed some Canucks bills into Murica monies months and months ago, so this is actually cheaper for me.

Help me out with my list if you dont mind.

Wood taken care of.
Speakers taken care of.

Metals corners.
Grill cloth.
Tolex.
Black Screws.
T-Nuts black
Removable castors with plates.
Recessed caster cup.
Marshall styled steel handles ( I actually prefer these over the Peavey style)
Rubber feet.
Recessed jack plate.
jack socket.

Did I forget anything? :pray

Sounds like alot of stuff to haul back...but I cant see it. Worst comes to worst I,ll send it to my self some of the parts.

Any chimers inners?

Not my area of expertise, but sounds like a fun project... :thumbsup

Put up some sound samples, once it's done!

Good call on the wire and spades. Glue, check. I have some left over Roxul I could use for the inside.

I,m hoping to have the shell built before or on the end of February, if the weather cooperates, its gotten cold here again, for now the temps in the garage are workable.

Oh Yeah I forgot. Old style Peavey Logo.....like back in the 80's 8) I plan is too take the oval off the tube head and use it on the cabinet....then old school it with a logo with came out in the 80's. I,m going to put up a few wanted ads....see if I can get anything cheap, Maybe get a cheap practice amp out of the deal.

This should be fun.

Some supplies picked up in North Hollywood. The castors are removable.

Two plastic bags have t-nut hardware, and the 3rd plastic bag has black screws.....which come to think of it I should have grabbed more....but readily available locally.

I made a start today. Bought the wood yesterday. I decided on 5/8 finished Birch, some threads I read people used 3/4 and the cabinet was heavy, of course its going to be heavy, I thought maybe by using 5/8 might shed some pounds, but as long as it sounds good is the main goal. I,m drawing a blank now as to the thickness of the wood used in the 6505 cab. I had the cover off just to check some dimensions I couldnt remember 5/8 or 3/4 thickness.

I got the basic shell together.

I got some recessed castor holder thingys and started to paint them black, I,m using a mix of black Plastidip, regular black gloss spray paint and a laquer coat. I,m hoping over time the paint doesnt wear off too much.

Image

I got some real heavy duty castors, also removable. The castors are 3 1/2 in Dia. If I had to get these here in Canadia a difference of 22$ or more CAD.

Going to be an interesting build. My main goal was too take my time and not rush anything. Tolex and speaker grill cloth isnt 100% match but pretty damn close. Metal corners.....pretty damn close. The only thing that remains a constant is the speakers.....all the same.

To buy a new 6505 bottom cab....$880 CAD. I,m in this so far less then $400.....that also includes enough Tolex wrap for another 4X12 wrap. which If I decide my first 4X12 will get.

Tomorrow Hopefully I,ll have the baffles ready, That reminds me I gotta run to the hardware store again.

I also haven't forgotten about internal bracing, I ran out of suitable materials.

I just noticed an oddity in the pic. Does that top panel look a lil bowed? I walked back to the garage with a straight edge....sure enough its slighty out by 1MM in the middle   Damn it payed off being a Machinist   I hate wood though

Easy fix. Top becomes bottom or I,ll fix her with the baffles bringing her straight

Cause thats how I roll

I cant wait for the old style Peavey logo I ordered....its going to look so Kick A$$ on the Tube Head....with a few other mods, Old school Son!!!!
